Racing: Magdalena Neuner (GER) wins home World Cup - Darya Domracheva (BLR) in third place
Magdalena Neuner (GER, Fischer skis and boots) claimed her first victory this season at todays home World Cup in Ruhpolding (GER).
In a thrilling final the six-fold World Champion won despite one shooting error thanks to an amazing skiing performance by a margin of just 0.2 seconds ahead of her teammate Kati Wilhelm (GER). The excited winner was beside herself with joy: "It is going great now. I'm back in good shape and I am able to give my all. In the final lap I gave 110 %. It is a lot of fun again ."
Darya Domracheva (BLR, Fischer skis and boots) shot flawlessly and ensured third place 14 seconds behind Magdalena Neuner. After the 22-year old White Russian shocked the audience at the Mass Start race in Oberhof (GER) at the second shooting where she shot standing during the prone session, she war overjoyed today with the best result of her career so far: "There is a saying in our language: If you want to go all the way to the top, you first have to drop all the way to the bottom. In that sense what happened in Oberhof wasn't a coincidence. My wrong shooting there was a shock which mobilized some new power inside me. And, mind you, that way, everybody talks about me."
Chunli Wang (CHN, Fischer) also made a big race with one shooting error and only 32.2 seconds back in fourth place. Thus she gained her second top five result this season.
Helena Jonsson (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) shot flawlessly and made the top ten in ninth place.
