In an exciting Mass Start race Christoph Stephan (GER, Fischer) won in a tense final ahead of Dominik Landertinger (AUT, Fischer skis and boots). On the womens side Helena Jonsson (SWE, Fischer Skis and boots) achieved second place behind Ekaterina Iourieva (RUS) and ahead of Kaisa Mäkäräinen (FIN).

 

It was pure thrill on the finishing stretch: Christoph Stephan and Dominik Landertinger presented an amazing show-down at the finish. In the end the German had his nose in front by the margin of just 0.2 seconds and thus celebrated his first World Cup victory ever in his career. "That was the best day in my career so far, but this won't make me cocky now. I'm not thinking about medals", said the winner with a big smile.

 

Dominik Landertinger altogether had to compensate three penalty loops and put in an outstanding perfornance on the tracks. With his second place today the Austrian junior already acheived his third World Cup podium in an individual race. At the same time the 21-year old managed a premiere on the material field: for the first time ever an athlete made the podium with the brand new Hole Ski from Fischer, which will be launched to the sport dealers at the ISPO exhibition next weekend. "I love this ski. It is a totally different feeling to ski with it", said todays second-placed Austrian satisfied with his new material.

 

Thomasz Sikora (POL, Fischer), Daniel Mesotitsch (AUT, Fischer skis and boots) and Alexander Os (NOR, Fischer skis and boots) in seventh, eighth and tenth place likewise made the top ten.

 

On the womens side Helena Jonsson shot flawlessly in the first three shooting sessions. At the last shooting she had to go for one penalty loop and had to let the Russian go. The 24-year old Swede, however, superiorly defended her second place and was overjoyed with her success: "It is amazing to make the podium here. At the end I was very tired and the skiers behind me were really fast. Therefore I had to give all the power I had. Now I am looking forward to coming home and relaxing a little bit before we fly to the World Champs in Korea."

 

Magdalena Neuner (GER, Fischer skis and boots) was the unlucky one of the day. After three flawless shooting sessions and a great skiing performance the six-times World Champion was in a dominating lead when she came to the final standing session. There the drama begun because all of the five targets remained black. Despite her five penalty loops Neuner nevertheless finished in an impressive seventh place.
